Softwood Mouldings: Architraves and Skirting Boards
Here at JAS Timber, we supply a wide range of timber products at a consistently competitive price. The range includes a comprehensive collection of timber mouldings and beadings. In this edition of our blog, we will be showcasing some of our redwood torus lambs tongue mouldings, which are primarily used for creating architraves and skirting boards.;
These superlative products are made using Upper-Gulf Scandinavian redwood from leading brand SCA Timber. The timber is of joinery quality, meaning that it has excellent density and an acceptable number of natural knots. The mouldings are usually machined from 25mm boards, which means that there are far fewer defects and knots as compared to those found in deep-cut timber.
All of the timber used to craft these products is certified by the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) and/or the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), so you can rest assured that you are making a sustainable, environmentally aware choice.
These mouldings are ideal for creating beautiful architraves, which are decorative timber trims placed around internal openings such as door casings, windows or loft hatches. When installed, they conceal the joint between the timber and wall, as well as any subsequent shrinkage. The return corners of architraves are usually mitred and set back from the casing's edge to avoid the restriction of hinge knuckles and striking plates. A variety of lengths are available and we can cut pieces to customer-specified lengths at our premises.
Used to create an attractive period look which works especially well in larger rooms, these skirting boards feature a traditional torus pattern on one side with an ovolo pattern on the reverse, enhancing versatility. The product should be treated and fixed into place at the earliest opportunity to minimise the potential for any movement or surface checking. A range of lengths is available and we can cut pieces to your chosen size on request. Designed for internal use only.
