Oak Jointed Boards: A JAS Timber Bestseller

Oak is one of the most widely-chosen construction materials, offering a winning combination of strength, versatility and unmatched aesthetic value. Here at JAS Timber, we supply a wide variety of different timber products made using oak, including our bestselling Oak Jointed Board.

In this edition of the JAS Timber blog, we'll give you all the details about our oak jointed boards, along with some important tips about how to use them for the best results.

These furniture boards, which feature full-length solid oak staves, are carefully manufactured using laminated European oak of absolutely superlative quality. Each square-edged board has been sanded to perfection and is of a supremely-attractive colour, exhibiting rich, warm tones of yellow, brown and cream.

The boards are available in four different lengths: 1800mm, 2100mm, 2300mm and 2400mm. The width of each board is 600mm and you can choose from either 18mm or 24mm thicknesses. As you can see, the range of available sizes is comprehensive, allowing the boards to be used for a wide variety of different applications.

It is important to treat and fix the oak boards in place as soon as is possible. This will help to minimise twisting and other movements along with the surface splitting and checking that can occur with natural changes in the content of moisture. Though extremely versatile, you should note that the material is only suitable for use as a door with appropriate bracing and/or framing.

The boards are crafted to as precise tolerances as are possible: ±1mm in thickness, ±6mm in width and ±40mm in cross-cutting tolerance on each stave. The sizes stated refer to measurements taken immediately after the timber has been machined and therefore do not take into account any later movement caused by ingress or egress of moisture.

Both the size and profile of the engineered boards can vary in different batches so you are advised to purchase the full amount required for any particular project all in one transaction. Any variations in colour, grain, knots, grading, sizes and patterns cannot be rectified at a later date as the boards are supplied solely as a Special Order.
