Decking Perfection from Richard Burbidge

In a recent edition of the JAS Timber blog, we shared just some of the many benefits that decking can bring to your garden or outdoor space. As a decking structure should be built to last, withstanding everything the UK climate can throw at it, choosing decking components of superlative quality is absolutely essential.

Here at JAS Timber, we offer a comprehensive array of decking components designed to allow you to build the decking of your dreams, that will transform your property's aesthetic, give you extra outdoor living space and even significantly enhance the financial value of your home. In this edition of our blog, we'll be looking at one of the companies whose decking components we are proud to supply: Richard Burbidge.

Richard Burbidge

Richard Burbidge is a company that has been established and thriving for well over 100 years. The company was founded by the master craftsman Henry Burbidge in 1867, who started his venture with a budget of 10 shillings. To begin with, Burbidge produced high-quality cricket stumps, croquet mallets and stair parts; As his reputation grew, his business grew with it and the company was soon producing a wide range of other items including car parts for the burgeoning automotive industry.

In 1946, Henry Burbidge's ambitious grandson Harry joined the company, buying a piece of land and on it building a permanent factory and offices. The business bloomed further, expanding to include doors in its product portfolio; by 1964, the company had grown to such proportions that a new 7,500 sq. ft factory and timber store was built. A year later, Harry's son Richard joined his father in the successful company.

Richard Burbidge remains at the head of the company as Chairman. Josh Burbidge, Richard's son, is the Managing Director, meaning that the company remains to this day owned and run by the Burbidge family.
